Frustrated by the winter!

We have been feeling very frustrated by the winter… It is about now that we feel like we really have had enough of the cold weather and that we can’t get out to walk naked on the beach. Unfortunately at the moment we don’t have enough spare cash to wizz off to somewhere warm like the Canary Islands to do some naked beach hiking!

We have been fortunate to spend a couple of weekends at Marian’s house, as she and her partner Drew have a nice little sauna in the garden so we have been able to spend some time naked in the sauna. Drew isn’t a big fan of what he calls ‘Marian’s bad habit’ of walking naked with us, so often plans a day or two away with his mates to allow Marian to indulge. He seems to appreciate how important it is to her.

The good news for us is that if he is away then we can pretty much turn up the heating and spend the whole couple of days naked with Marian. Andi and Marian are happy as they can spend some quality time and I’m happy as I’m able to spend some quality time naked with my wife and her best friend.

Background to the blog

My name is Dan, and I’ve been with my wife Andrea (Andi) for over 20 years. We started this blog to share some of the fun we have being naked walking in public places – it is something we enjoy, and thought that others would like to know about the spots we have found over the years.

We have always loved the outdoors, walking, camping, mountains, the beach and so on, and we also have always loved spending time relaxing naked with each other. I suppose it was inevitable that our love of the purity of nudity and our love of the beach would come together sometime.

We started by just spending time naked on the beach, sunbathing and skinny dipping, sometimes with Andi’s best friend Marian, but soon found that we really didn’t like having to wear cozzies for playing beach games and walking about, so we decided to only try to go to beaches where we can spend pretty much all of our time naked.

A few years ago we discovered how much fun it was to walk naked on beaches and this became our ‘thing’. Andi’s long time best friend Marian also got interested in our naked beach walking and started to come along. Ironically Marian is probably more into it than my wife Andi now, and I often end up walking with Marian, whilst Andi stays put and enjoys the sun!

We hope you enjoy the blog, and that our walking spots inspire you to get out there and get naked on the beach.

Rossili Beach

Rossili Beach at the far western end of the Gower in South Wales is a fantastic beach. It is very popular with locals from the Swansea / Cardiff area and a popular destination from much further afield. There is a great campsite at Hillend, with all the facilities you could expect. The beach was the location for an attempt at the biggest mass skinny dip record in 2011!

The beach is know for being very busy in the middle, and at the south end, but the rest of it is pretty quiet, even in the summer (except at weekends), and the north end has a history of nude sunbathing at the top of the beach and in the extensive dune complex behind the beach. When the tide goes out, it goes a long way out, up to half a mile or more, this is what makes it great for naked walking. I have drawn the map below to show where the approximate low tide mark is, as this is the best time to walk naked on the beach.

From the carpark walk through the dunes on the well worn sand and boardwalk path, then turn right on the beach and walk north until you find a secluded spot at the top of the beach to get naked and stash your clothes and bags. It is best to then walk straight down to the waterline and decide which way to go, north (right) or south (left) and get walking!

Most days in the summer there will be people on the beach, but if the tide is right out, you have a massive expanse of sand to walk on, and you can usually avoid too many encounters with the textiles. If you walk north, when you get to the top end of the beach it is possible to cross over the rocky band and continue walking past the headland. The beach is a bit narrower here even at low tide and you will stand a very good chance of meeting textiles out for a walk or enjoying the seclusion of the small beaches round the corner. Usually there will be a few people sunbathing naked round this corner, so mostly the textiles dont mind.

If you want to, you can walk back south and go the full length of the beach to the south end and then back up to your gear stash point, this gives a good long walk of around 5-5.5 miles as you effectively walk the length of the beach twice. If you do this then you will have to walk past the busy middle section of the beach, but again, at very low tide, even on a very busy day is is possible to avoid contact with most of the textiles who are either in the sea, or walking up/down to the waterline..

We have camped a few times at the Hillend site and on those trips have managed to walk the beach several times fully naked having left all of our clothes and bags at a stash. We have never had any problems other than the usual gawpers who we couldn’t avoid whilst walking, and once we walked the beach when the tide was only about 1/3 of the way out, so were much closer to the top of the beach. On that occasion it wasn’t too busy so we calculated that it would be OK, and we just walked straight past the main gaggle of textiles in the middle of the beach. It felt a bit sketchy at the time, but all in all it was fine.

Its a great beach, superb for swimming and surfing, there is always plenty of room for everyone, an amazing place to be naked in public and it is a great walk to do naked – not too long, and in a superb setting.

Nash Point to Llantwit Major

Another very exposed walk suggested by our friends who live in the area. The whole walk is very exposed to walkers on the cliff top path and many would consider this to be way too sketchy.

Park up at the car park at Nash Point and walk down the path to the shingle / rocky beach, then turn left and walk along under the cliff until you find a suitable spot to get naked and stash your clothes and bags. Head out to the waterline at low tide and turn left (east) and begin the naked walk. Keep walking until you get to the small bay at St Donats. This is a good place to turn back (especially if the bay is busy – although it is a private bay, so rarely is busy). If you keep going, the next major feature you will come to is another small private bay with a couple of houes at the top of the beach, again it will probably be very quiet so just press on!

More rough walking on the wave cut platform and the shingle beach leads quickly to the beach at Llantwit Major. This is close to a large village and is a popular spot, so in all probability there will be a number of textiles in evidence. This is a good place to turn around and retrace your steps back to Nash Point.

Like the walk at Lavernock, this whole walk is very exposed to walkers on the cliff top path, and the beach at Nash Point can be quite a popular spot to explore too. You will be in full view of anyone walking on the cliff top path and you may meet some textiles on the beach near the car park end, so bear that in mind before attempting this walk. You need to be very comfortable being naked in public view. Many would consider this to be too sketchy, although when I checked the walk with my wife’s best friend Marian (female) it was pretty quiet (midweek in June 2012), and we were able to walk the full distance fully naked, with no problems, only encountering about three textiles on the beach. As always we left all of our clothes and belongings at the stash point where my wife waited for us, so were totally committed to being naked for the whole walk (always the best way!).

NOTE: ALWAYS DO THIS WALK ON A FALLING OR VERY LOW TIDE, OR YOU WILL RUN THE RISK OF BEING CUT OFF!

Lavernock Point

A very exposed (sketchy) but enjoyable short walk of approximately 4 – 5 miles round trip. We were given these details by some friends who live locally and have walked this route a few times when they have been sunbathing naked at the base of the cliffs. I first walked it with my wife Andi and her best friend Marian in June 2012. We were surprised at how exposed it was to onlookers, and  my wife and her friend were a bit anxious at first about it being way too sketchy but we went ahead anyway and enjoyed the experience of total naked public exposure. You make up your own mind.

Park on the side of the lane in the trees and gain access to the beach by walking through the caravan park, then turn left (east) along the shingle beach and walk round the corner below the cliff. You can then stash your clothes anywhere along the cliff base in the jumbles of rocks, this is also a good spot to spend some time sunbathing naked and taking in the view across the bristol channel whilst you contemplate the sanity of the rest of the walk.

At low tide walk out to the waterline and turn left (East) and continue to walk along the rocky waters edge (you will need to wear something on your feet) until you reach the obvious rocky point (Lavernock Point). This section can be very sketchy if the fishermen are out on the rocks – they are not far away and will be very amused to see you! Walk round the point and check out the fantastic view of the rest of the walk in front of you, with the pier of Penarth town visible in the distance. It can get busy here at Lavernock point as a small car park is available up on the cliff top. The campsite shown on this map is now closed. I must reiterate that this is by far the sketchiest part of this walk as you will almost certainly meet textiles on the beach here.

Walk along the foreshore towards the pier in the distance for as far as you want (or dare). When we did the walk we pressed on as far as we could, until the houses up on the cliff top came into full view when we decided to turn around and walk back. On the way back, the area around the point had become a bit busier, with a fair number of textiles poking about in the rock pools and a few dog walkers coming east (towards us). This all caused my female companions a little bit of concern as we were committed (as usual) and had left all of our clothes and bags at the stash point – no fall back coverups for us! It was fine though and the textiles just had a good gawp, overall it was very sketchy indeed, but great naked fun.

This whole walk is very exposed to walkers on the beach, although much of the cliff top path is well hidden behind hedges. The beach seems to be quite a popular spot to explore and it as likely that you will meet textiles on the beach near the point, so bear that in mind before attempting this short walk. You need to be very comfortable being naked in public view. Many would consider this walk to be way too sketchy.

Northcoates Point and Mablethorpe

A naked walk in public which is in a surprisingly wild spot given its closeness to some major urban areas.

When you get onto the beach (assuming you have parked at the north end), turn right (south) and walk a bit until you feel you are far enough away from the entry point to the beach and then find a spot to get naked and stash your clothes and bag. We always like to walk totally naked – carrying no bags or “emergency clothes”, usually just wearing a hat and a pair of sunglasses. For me it gives an amazing feeling of total commitment to my nakedness which I simply wouldn’t have if I knew that i had a bag or any fall-back coverups with me. It took my wife a while to get used to this level of commitment to naked walking, but now she is probably more focussed on taking nothing with us than I am!

Once you have stashed, you can either walk down the beach, close to the small run of dunes, or strike out to the waterline and then turn south again to continue. The walk to the waterline can sometimes be a bit sticky as the sand can get a bit silted, but persevere as there are usually some great and bars down at the waterline to walk south on.

BE AWARE THAT YOU MUST ONLY WALK DOWN TO THE WATERLINE ON A FALLING TIDE – NEVER ON A RISING TIDE. THE TIDE COMES IN VERY FAST OVER THE SAND BARS AND IT IS VERY EASY TO GET CUT OFF. PLEASE CHECK THE TIDE TABLES BEFORE YOU SET OFF.

Keep walking for about 45-60 mins until you come to the obvious start of the next part of the beach. If you have walked close to the top of the beach this will be the point at which you have had to strike out left and skirt round the marshy / dune area, if you have walked down the waterline it will be when you come to the stretch of sand which is busier.

It may be best not to go much further than this, tempting though it may be, unless you are very brave and confient – the next section of the beach is very popular with textile holiday makers from the big holiday camp at saltfleet. If it is quiet though, then why not go further? There is a great all day extension down to Mablethorpe town beach too. If you do walk the next stretch then you will almost certainly meet some textiles. In the summer this beach can get very busy indeed, and becomes very very sketchy with large amounts of textiles. When I did this walk on my own a couple of years ago on a weekday in the spring it was already getting busy and I almost turned round at this point. Make your own judgement!

If you press on, it is an extra mile or so to the next change in the beach when you reach the south end of the popular stretch and reach the stream running across the sand. If the tide is out you can keep going all the way down to Mablethorpe Town Beach! Its a long way though…

On my visit, the sun was out, it was mid morning and the next stretch of beach south looked pretty quiet so I carried on. I turned right, up to the top of the wet sand close to the top of the beach and carried on down towards Mablethorpe. The beach was pretty quiet, with a few people hunkered in the dunes at the top of the beach (possibly naturists), and a few groups of textiles close to the obvious entry points to the beach from car parking spots. I kept going all the way down to Mablethorpe passing the odd textile and dog walker. To be honest I probably got carried away and went a bit too far south as I rocked up on the pretty busy north end of Mablethorpe Town Beach – i really only stopped when the beach was way too busy and I was getting lots of long looks from the increasingly large numbers of textiles. I headed out to the waterline and turned back north.

This full walk as described is not for the faint hearted. It is a long way (reckon on 7-8 miles each way), and you have to be very careful of your timing with the tides at the top end. It is well worth it though. I have to say that the feeling of commitment to your nakedness in public is fantastic when you go this far from your start point. It was an amazing feeling of absolute freedom to be naked with no fall-back coverups at the busy and very public north end of Mablethorpe Town Beach and know that I had a good 3 hrs walking to do to get back to my clothes and bag.

You can of course do either the northern or southern loops individually for a shorter less committing walk, but if you can, try do do the whole thing, it is a fantastic naked experience and well worth the effort! I would say that this was the best day of naked walking I have ever had…

Druridge Bay – Northumberland

This another beautiful spot for a naked walk in a public place. Druridge Bay is around 4 miles long, so it is possible to have a really long naked walk in the most astounding wild place.

It can be several degrees colder up here inNorthumberland than in the south of the country, but don’t let that put you off, on a good warm spring or summer day the temperature is great for walking naked.

There is no “best spot” to start your walk, but its probably a good idea not to strip off too close to either of the main car parks at the north and south end of the beach, as this is where you will generally find the most textiles. We tend to park at one of the smaller car parks and walk through the dunes then turn left (north) or right (south) and walk a short distance until we find a quiet spot to get naked and stash our clothes and gear.

I have been here several times with my wife (never in a group) and have had great naked walks along the beach. We have walked the whole length of the beach naked, usually at low to mid tide, at the waterline and had no real issues. The beach is used by naturists for sunbathing and swimming, but most naked people keep a fairly low profile, usually taking a spot at the top of the beach or just back in the dunes, only venturing down to have a dip in the water.

In that respect it is unusual for any naked people to be walking the length of the beach, and it is probable that you will meet some textile walkers, guaranteed at the weekend. Having said that, if you come here on a weekday (for some reason the start of the week seems to be quieter), it is usually very quiet. I have been on the beach on some summer days and pretty much had it to myself.

We have been here on a spring weekend (in May) and it was still very quiet – we met only five or six textiles at the waters edge in about 2 hrs of naked walking. To be honest we quite like walking in sketchy locations, it all adds to the fun when you see the looks on some of the faces of the textiles.

All in all, this is one of my most favoured beaches up north, it is pretty remote, in an amazing location, and gives a great naked walk.

I thoroughly recommend that you ditch your clothes and walk the full length of Druridge bay naked, unencumbered by clothes, bags or any un-natural encumbrances, you won’t regret it.

Morfa Dyffryn – Wales

Morfa Dyffryn is the only official nude beach in the whole of Wales, and what great spot it is!

Morfa Dyffryn - nude beach in Gwynedd, Wales

The beach is just outside of the Snowdonia National Park and is in a amazing spectacular location.  there is not much to say about this beach other than giving you some basic instructions. If you park up the public car park shown on map below just walk through the dunes on the boardwalk until you come to the beach.

Once you hit the beach turn right and walk a few hundred metres north until you reach the quiet  part of the beach which is pretty much the beginning of the official nude area. When you get here, or when you think you got here just find a spot in the dunes to leave your clothes and other gear and get naked. You can now just walk the beach as far as possible North and enjoy being naked in the great outdoors.

Once you get towards the North end of the beach it will get busier as there is a giant campsite hidden over the dunes, called Shell Island. It is a very basic campsite with very little in the way of facilities, almost a “wild” campsite. Lots of people who stay at Shell Island will be on the beach and some of them will also be naked, but usually just a little bit south from the campsite itself, i.e. towards the official nude area of the beach. Don’t worry too much about wandering around naked on this part of the beach even if it seems a bit busy,  the kind of people who tend to camp at Shell Island really would not be that bothered by a few naked people on the beach so long as you keep yourself to yourself.

Its also possible to wander at will amongst the dunes for a couple of hours and never meet another person. Perfect for those who want to walk naked for as long as possible.

When you feel you have gone far enough just turn around and walk back to your starting point. Don’t forget to have a dip in the sea if it is a warm day, the water is usually pretty bracing even in the summer, but it’s an experience you must have!

Pembrey Beach – Wales

An amazing stretch of sand called Cefn Sidan in south wales. On a good day this is one of the most amazing places in the world to get naked.

This is a fantastic place to walk naked, but you have to be careful to walk far enough away from the fairly busy family part of the beach otherwise you will upset people on the beach. Having said that if you do walk far enough before you stash your clothes and get naked you will have no problems at all. I have walked this beach several times and never had any problem. It is an amazing Place.

Once you have found a spot to  leave your clothes, just head down to the waterline and turn right (west) and walk. If you walk right to the end of the beach and back you will cover a good 9 miles, so you may not want to go that far.

There are usually a few  naturist’s scattered along this beach so you should not feel uncomfortable about being naked although you may meet some textile walkers who have the same idea to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of this place.

Saunton Sands – Devon

A great naked walk along a fantastic public beach where you sometimes can have the beach almost to yourself. I have walked this route loads of times, both on my own, with my wife and with a couple of friends.  The beach can get busy in the summer but the further you walk south on the beach the quieter it gets So you should have no problems getting naked. We have never had any issues with other beach users other than a few surprised looks. The full walk is long (around 10 miles) but of course you can easily turn round at any point and walk back.

The best place to start is at the public car park. Park up here then walk down to the beach via the access path. Turn left (south) and walk a few hundred metres down the beach and find a spot to stash your clothes and get naked. We like to get naked as soon as possible to maximise the fun!

we usually walk down to the low water line and then walk  South down the beach until we reach the far end where it curves around to the left gently before reaching the point at the southernmost tip of the dune complex. There is a coastguard  watch tower here which sometimes is manned, sometimes is not. This part of the beach is very narrow and you may consider it a little too sketchy if you are uncomfortable walking naked where you may encounter some textiles.  We never really had any problems other than a few surprised looks from the rather bemused textiles.

The next section, (which to be fair is very short) is definitely a spot where you stand a good chance of an encounter with textile walkers as the beach is very close to the coast path, again though we have never had any issues. We have never walked beyond the buildings a few hundred yards further on. When you have gone far enough just turn around and walk back!

It is possible to find your way back through the dunes, but it is very hard going and on a hot day almost unbearably hot – You can’t just walk down the beach and have a quick dip to cool off! We usually just retrace our steps back along the beach at the waterline or walk along the top of the beach.

I hope you enjoy this walk, it is a beautiful beach and an amazing public place to spend a day walking naked.
